Sports equipment must be safely stowed in and on the car when driving on a winter holiday. Otherwise, they can become dangerous projectiles for the occupants or traffic. In emergency cases where you need Heavy Duty Towing services, your sports equipment will be safe.
Heavy Duty Towing: Transporting sports equipment in station wagon, van and SUV
The sports equipment can easily be transported in the trunk. A prerequisite, however, is a dividing net to the driver’s cab. Otherwise, if you brake suddenly, the load will fly forward with incredible force. Tension belts, with which skis, snowboards and the like can be firmly attached, are even safer than a partition net.
The existing safety belt can possibly be used to fasten the sports equipment. Nothing should be transported lengthways between the front seats, as careless movements could result in painful injuries to the upper body and arms.
Heavy Duty Towing: Options for transport on the roof
Roof boxes
They offer additional space for additional equipment. Lockable units enable worry-free parking. When buying, you should also pay attention to the test mark. When used, however, the roof load specified in the vehicle registration document must not be exceeded. This is calculated from the weight of the basic carrier, the roof box and the luggage.
Before the journey, the luggage is distributed evenly in the box. You have to adjust the tire pressure and headlight settings when the vehicle is heavily loaded. The boxes take up a lot of space in the garage outside of the season. On the other hand, due to their aerodynamic shape, they offer less wind resistance than other carrier systems and thus save fuel.
Conventional roof racks
On the one hand, special ski racks are offered. On the other hand, there are ski mounts for multifunctional roof racks. The latter are particularly suitable if, for example, bicycles are also to be transported in summer. Before buying, you should make sure that the skis fit, especially carving skis are too thick for some systems.
If you want to leave your packed car behind with your sports equipment, lockable holders are recommended. In general, skis are fastened with the tip pointing backwards. You shouldn’t skimp on the protective ski bag on longer trips, as corrosion can damage the skis.
